To break into a property, most burglars use doors as the point of entry. Statistics show that 70% of burglars pursue entry via a door and 45% from the front of a property. As such, the security of your front door is a crucial consideration.
To ensure that your front door is secure, you need to take into account both the material of the door and in particular, the door’s lock. Even solid, sturdy doors can give way if the lock on the door is flimsy and can be easily broken.
Materials
The three most popular front door materials are uPVC, composite and timber. Simply put, composite and timber doors offer the highest level of security however uPVC doors do also offer great safety and security. The combination of materials used to manufacture composite doors has led to those doors being extremely dependable, as has the heavy, solid hardwood used to construct timber doors. uPVC doors nowadays are made from higher quality, more rigid materials than they used to be so alongside a robust lock, these doors are also a safe choice to prevent intruders from gaining entry.
Locks
All the doors that We Fit install are fitted with the latest generation of high security locks. We advise opting for multi-point locking systems where possible, which have been designed with the intention of preventing break ins. Look for locks featuring anti-bump and anti-drill cylinder locks with anti-snap cylinder guards if you want peace of mind.
Beading
An additional factor to consider is your front door’s beading. Crucially, the front doors that we install are internally beaded, which prevents the glazing or uPVC panels from being removed from the outside.
Accreditation
If you’re looking to keep yourself, your family and your home safe, we advise that you select a door which has been accredited by the BBA.
